Love Is A Splendid Thing

What is it that makes a professional woman who dislikes reality TV because of the way it portrays woman end up on a season of The One? (as the saying goes be careful when saying never)

After Olena walks away from her lucrative job as the highest paid Senior Key Accounts manager at Lutel Industries in the country, she lands a spot as the bachelorette of a reality show called The One. The season premier airs on Valentine's Day.
There's several things that make this show different from the other reality shows on TV; The bachelorette is black, and forty-three and it's her plan not to allow the producers to make woman look stupid and to walk away with a book deal? But can Olena walk away with a book deal in one hand and a bachelor in the other?

This relatable relationship novel puts readers behind the scenes of reality TV show The One showcasing what real love and scripted love can look like. The story is told from the point of view of Jason Nix and Olena Day. As Olena travel to 10 different romantic cities and meet 10 bachelors the readers are on the date right along with them. As we draw near to the final show Godiva the shows executive tells Olena who they don't want her to choose, but will Olena follow the script or her heart?
What is new and what I thoroughly enjoyed was the drama free episodes of The One. By the end the reader knows each character well and will be longing to visit them again in future books.
Ms. Robison has a fantastic talent for writing good stories that deserves space on every reader's shelf. It is said that The One continues Olena' story from In Love with a Younger Man. One doesn't have to read In Love with a Younger Man to read The One.

I really enjoyed this story! Cheryl Robinson's stories are always so creative and they stand apart from other books for this very reason. It's obvious a lot of reserach went into this one. I can't wait for the next Olena book... I never would have predicted the ending and I want to know what's going to happen next! Keep up the good work and Bravo to you!

I couldn't wait to read the sequel to ILWAYM, but I was very disappointed with this book. This book was long and drawn out. I liked the details about the sites she visited when she went to the different destinations, and the insight into reality shows was good. The end left you hanging, but if you read "When I Get Where I'm Going" it reveals that Olena married Jason and they had twins. "When I get Where I'm going" was a better than this book. It revealed more about Jason & Olena than the sequel did, and it was written two year earlier. I guess I'll have to reread it to find out what happened with Olena's career. This book probably would have been more enjoyable if she took Jason & Olena out and used new characters.

If you want to schedule, have this book

Good book. It is not correct to say that it discusses outdated P3. It provides, as you can tell by the very chapter title "Overview of Prevalent Software Products". This is a book about all aspects of construction scheduling, but it is definitely useful for any industry. Provides both the big picture and the small detail. Describes mechanics of algorithms used in such scheduling packages. Gives you practical approaches to everyday life with a schedule, from development through maintenance, as well as contractual issues, claims analyses and approaches to enforcement of good practices. It details e.g. new proposed schedule logic approaches (as used in Pertmaster), but then it also gives you a common sense advice on how to handle the schedule on a live project and what to require from contractor (and what is generally expected to be required from contractor). Use the parts which you need, and there are quite a few to choose from. It is not a "click-this-click-that" software jockey cookbook. It is much better than that.

Comprehensive yet dry at times

Very thorough and comprehensive information. I read this book to gain CPM knowledge to prepare for a job interview. The book gave me every bit of CPM knowledge I needed to do great in the interview and I landed the job (not only do to this book but it helped with the CPM questions I was expecting). The information is there but it can be dry and boring to read in some sections. I highly recommend this book.

About the Author
Professor Striebig received his PhD from The Pennsylvania State University, engineering school. He has served as editor on major journals in his subject area such as the Journal of Engineering for Sustainable Development. He has led major, funded, award-winning research activities, including the U.S. EPA study in West Africa. Professor Striebig has written several book chapters, numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, and presented at many peer-reviewed conferences.

Professor Ogundipe has previously held academic positions at Stevens Institute of Technology and the Polytechnic Institute of New York University. He has a Ph.D from Stevens Institute of Technology. His current areas of specialization and scholarship include Life Cycle Analysis, Industrial Ecology, and developing methods for assessing sustainability.

Professor Papadakis is a political economist with expertise in energy management and the role of energy in sustainable development. Dr. Papadakis' research has been published in specialized reports of the National Science Foundation, and in such journals as Evaluation and Program Planning, Journal of Technology Transfer, The Scientist, and the International Journal of Technology Management.

An honest, positive take on green cleaning

Karen Noonan Logan has put together an extremely useful, honest recipe book for green cleaning products.
It is honest in that she rates the effectiveness of each formula provided, and not all of them are 95s or 100s (comparable to commercial cleaners). In fact, there are several in the book that aren't that effective, but at least they don't poison you.
However, the majority of her recipes *are* effective and very easy to make. Logan writes matter-of-factly, but with a positive style. It's not like reading a textbook or cookbook at all; you are entertained as you read.
There is a broad enough range of recipes that you can clean nearly anything, but not so many that you can't figure out which recipe to make for which cleaning job.
In contrast, I found that Annie Berthold-Bond's book "Clean and Green" was too cluttered by a confusing array of recipes, some of which are so specialized many people will probably never use them. Also, her writing style is far too dry to really be enjoyable.
If you really, really need a weird stain out of your clothes and don't want to reach for the bleach or stain stick, you may want to pick up "Clean and Green." But for just cleaning floors, tile, windows, etc. it is *much* easier to use the simple, multi-purpose recipes in "Clean House, Clean Planet."

Very useful, but redundant

While I recommend buying this book and trying out all the recipes, I don't recommend going wild all at once like I did.
The basic message of the book is this: Clean your windows and mirrors with plain club soda. Clean everything else with one or more of the following: baking soda, vinegar, Dr. Bronner's soap, or distilled water. The trick is to scent your baking soda or vinegar with a few drops of your favorite essential oil.
The cool thing about the book is that it gives detailed recipes for exactly what proportions of these main ingredients (plus a few others) work best to clean each different thing in your house, and it goes into some detail about what spray and squirt bottles work best, too. It's very practical and useful and I learned some new things from reading it (did you know that in the United States, you can't legally say that tea tree oil is a disinfectant?).
Unfortunately, she does repeat herself a lot, and she encourages you to buy more than you really need. WAY more. You won't save any money at all if you buy all the things she suggests you buy! I would say start out with one gallon of vinegar, one or two boxes of baking soda, one or two essential oils, some distilled water if you don't already have it, and maybe some Dr. Bronner's if you can afford it (you can use regular hand dishwashing liquid for most of these recipes). Spray bottles are nice, too, but I had a hard time finding the right size.
Back to the merits and un-merits of the book: The Table of Contents and the Index are well organized, but the book itself isn't quite so much. It would help so much if the topic headings on each page pointed to what was actually on that page instead of giving a general chapter name. If you're trying to look up a particular recipe, it can take a long time to find.
In conclusion, this is a good book that I definitely recommend buying. I love being able to clean nontoxically and this book is a huge help. I just wish I had bought a lot less stuff at the outset.

A wonderful find

I stumbled upon this book when I was searching for recipes for homemade cleansers that were also inexpensive. Truthfully, the whole toxicity issue didn't even cross my mind until I took a closer look at the book and reviews. I don't have children, but I do have a very curious dog who tracks in all sorts of dirt and loves to smell and (usually) lick everything he explores. It's very comforting to know that the cleaners I am now using are non-toxic. I also often wondered, "if *I* think this stuff smells strong and nasty, imagine what my dog and his superior sense of smell thinks of it!"

The book was fun and interesting to read. It's amazing that commercial cleansers don't have to list all of their ingredients. I also appreciated the author's honesty--pointing out things that are suspected and not proven, and even rating how well her cleaners work when compared to those you buy at the store. I agree with other reviewers that the recipes could have been laid out differently and can be hard to go back and find.

The recipes are very easy to put together and use ingredients that are easy to find. They also work!! Who knew that vinegar and water in a spray bottle would make cleaning the bathroom floors a million times easier and more pleasant. Or that baking soda would make my sinks sparkle. I've truly enjoyed reading the book and using the author's recipes.

Update (1/28/07): It's been nearly two years since I wrote my original review and I wanted to add that I'm still using the recipies, and love them more than ever!
